New version of the popular Processing software, developed by John Maeda’s ex-students Ben Fry and Casey Reas, has been released. It’s a step away from the previous naming convention as this one is not Beta - yes indeed - here’s v1.0. It brings us some new features, bug fixes and a slight interface touch-up.

I would post a link to their press release, but I can’t reach the site at the moment.

Squid Suckers, winner of Honorable Mention in the 2008 International Science and Engineering Visualization Awards. Loligo pealei squids have eight arms and two tentacles, all of which are coated with suction-cups, lined with fangs composed of chitin. These tiny suckers, whose diameters are around 400 microns, ultimately allow the half-meter-long squid to get a solid grip on its environment. (Courtesy of Jessica D. Schiffman and Caroline L. CushyCMS is an online service by Stateless Systems, creators of BugMeNot, for creating simple CMS solutions for your clients. It uses simple HTML files and extracts marked blocks of data to be edited with it’s powerful RichText editor. Nothing fancy but it covers the 99% of all of your CMS needs.

One of the most powerful features of this system is that you can create “editors” list and use it for asigning editing privileges of each page or site. All the “editor” needs to do is check his/hers mail and log in using the password provided.

The best thing of all is that it’s free, and you can even brand it as your own for a mere $28 a month. Saves me the trouble of programing my own “simple solutions”. I just love it and will use it in the project I’ve been working on.

Interactive Mirror

An interactive mirror made by Lit Studios. It really looks like fun. I can only imagine how does it feel like to have a full blown photo-realistic three-dimensional background while interacting with it. And the best part? It uses common mouse interface so you can build your interfaces in Flash.

Resolume 3

It’s been a while in the making, but here it comes: Resolume 3.

This version is a major step-up from the version 2 and it’s cross-platform. That’s right: you can now use it on your Mac. Interface got a complete redo, it looks fantastic compared to the previous version and finally looks like a real competitor to the Modul8. Can’t wait to play a bit with this one.

Here’s a brief introduction:

UPDATE: I installed it on my laptop (pretty old 1.6GHz HP) and it didn’t work as it requires a bit more than an integrated video card. They recomend MacBook Pro. So long Resolume, for now.
